Healthy thoughts, truisms, tips

Hello again.  Here we are at the end of August.  Labor Day.  Back to school.  End of summer vacation. Vacation - time away from the routine - is so important for your health.  It doesn't need to be somewhere crazy incredible - it just needs to be a break from your job, your school work, your chores.  An opportunity to go into low gear.

I recently got back from a wonderful vacation with my family in Tuscany, Italy.  We were fortunate enough to go spend a week together, unplug, and be inspired and awed by the natural and artistic beauty of the place.  The best part, honestly, of the whole vacation, was spending time with my family and seeing this small part of Italy through their eyes.

The trip was inspirational, and one of the things that it did was remind me of some simple, useful, easy to do health tips or attitudes that are good for your mental and physical health!  You don't need to go to Italy, or even away from your home to benefit from them.  And they are things that me and my family will continue to do long after we are back in the daily routine.

And here they are:

Take time to enjoy all the beauty that surrounds you.

Unplug.  Completely.  Look up away from your screens, to see, take in, appreciate what is right there next to you.

Spend time with the people you love.  Really spend time with them.  Talk with them.  Share experiences with them.  Enjoy them.  Be thankful they are in your life.

Walk more.

And Sit Less

Enjoy your food.  There is no such thing as "good" food or "bad" food.  Food is nourishment and pleasure.  That is all.  Some foods are "fun foods" others are "fuel foods" and many are both.  Eat a variety of foods.  Don't deny your hunger.  Eat for fuel, not out of boredom, stress, anxiety, loneliness.   Savor the flavor.

Don't be afraid to experiment and try something new.  Who knows what incredible thing can come of it?!

Be in the moment.  Experience it.  Digest it.  Learn from it.  This is true whether those moments are good or bad.  They will shape you and define you.
